About Kristen

Why should you hire me?

I know there are a lot of choices when it comes to hiring an attorney to help you with your legal and financial issues. I am sure that before you found my website you looked through a number of bankruptcy and consumer protection websites and you read what they have to say. So why should you hire me? What makes me different?

Quite simply, I understand your struggles and I can help you. Bankruptcy and consumer rights issues are what I focus on. I understand personally that financial difficulties are among life's most challenging problems. I witnessed my parents' financial struggles while I was growing up, and I saw how it ate at them, and the stress it caused them.

Many people would be surprised to learn that the majority of people in bankruptcy are generally financially responsible people that have simply come upon hard times. In many cases it is a lost job, a pay cut, or in the case of my parents, a chronic illness coupled with a lack of health insurance that resulted in a mountain of medical bills and limited earning potential. I know from first-hand experience that the weight of the crushing debt can make you feel extremely stressed out, embarrassed, thoroughly depressed, and completely hopeless.

But there is a way out. You can have financial stability again. You don't have to live with a knot in your stomach wondering how you will take care of your family, or with the fear that any moment, you could lose everything. I have dedicated my legal career to helping those who are struggling with debt and financial setbacks. The bankruptcy laws and consumer protection laws provide enormous protection and relief to those that are struggling financially, and provide them with the tools necessary to rebuild their lives, both financially and emotionally.

Because of my family's financial struggles, there wasn't any money available to pay for college. But I knew that education was the key to moving forward and creating a better life for me, and so I put myself through college, attending Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. I took out student loans, worked part-time jobs while going to school full-time, and worked full-time jobs while going to school part-time. I did what I needed to do so that I could get my college degree. I was the first generation on both sides of my family to graduate from college. Near the end of my college career, I became more and more interested in law, and I thought about going to law school, but in the end, I graduated with a Bachelor's degree, and began my career in retail management.

After I worked for several years in retail, I couldn't shake my interest in going to law school. It seemed out of my reach, so I obtained my paralegal certification, and began working as a paralegal. I enjoyed the legal field, but I felt like something was missing, so I finally made the decision and, ten years after I graduated from undergraduate school, I enrolled in law school. I attended the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan. Again, I worked both part-time and full-time while attending law school, and received my law degree in 2001. I worked in a variety of areas of law, but when I saw the great relief bankruptcy can provide for those experiencing financial hardship, I knew what I should do with my law degree. I felt it was where I could make the greatest impact and I have been primarily practicing bankruptcy law and consumer rights law since 2008.

I am a member of the State Bar of Colorado, and am licensed to practice before all state courts, and the United States District Court for the District of Colorado. I am also a member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys (NACBA), and the Colorado Bar Association. I attend conferences through the year by these organizations that keep me up to date on the latest in court developments and bankruptcy trends nationwide. This means that I will be prepared to handle issues that may arise in your case. Bankruptcy law is a complex area of law that is continually changing. You need a bankruptcy attorney who is committed to staying up to date and fully understands the bankruptcy process.

I chose to focus my practice on protecting the rights of the consumer, because I can relate to those issues and because, when it comes to fighting for your rights, I believe every person should have a fair shot at protecting themselves and their families. I can help my clients the most by giving them a voice while providing guidance through the often confusing legal system. My two main goals are providing my clients with knowledge about their legal rights, and helping them fight to protect those rights. After all, if you don't know your rights, how can you be sure that you are protected?
